Room configuration
One of the main differences with a Princess room compared to other companies is the lack of a sofa/relaxation area in standard cabins, including those with a balcony. This doesn't mean they're smaller than those belonging to comparable companies, instead Princess prioritise wardrobe space, which is extremely generous. If a lounging area is a must, you will need to upgrade to a deluxe balcony room or mini-suite.
Gamble for an upgrade?
Depending on the popularity of your cruise, Princess will hold a lottery on suites where you can upgrade for a discounted price. Be wary though that if you win, you will not be able to choose your new room location, nor will you know this until you embark, so if this is important to you, it'd be best to stick with your original room.
Factor food favourably into the price
A huge benefit of Princess is that there are several food options that are all included in the standard package. So when you're comparing prices to other cruise lines, this is something to remember as it means you won't need to splash the cash whilst onboard, but will still get lots of variety and convenience. As well as the main dining room, you have access to the International Cafe, Alfredo’s Italian and Horizon Court. You can also get pizza and burgers poolside and room service too for no extra charge.
Princess Plus
If you plan to buy WiFi and a drinks package onboard, you’ll save by purchasing a Princess Plus package. As well as the aforementioned, you will get two fitness classes, room service delivery and much more included in the price.
Princess Premier
You could go one step further and get the full star treatment with the Premier package. As well as everything included with Plus, you will get a range of other benefits such as a photo package, two speciality dining meals and reserved theatre seating. Overall, you'll save 70% of the cost of buying all the benefits separately, so even if you only plan to use some of them, it can work in your favour.
Pre-booking is key
Princess allow you to book a number of experiences and activities before you sail and they often sell out before you depart. They will also offer deals that are only available when you pre-order. So if you plan to use speciality dining, indulge in a spa treatment or head on an excursion, look into booking these ahead of time. Most of these bookings allow for a 48 hour refund policy, so you can change your mind once you're onboard, with no charge.
