Explore the Mediterranean's most popular cruise ports
Autumn
By September, the Summer heat will have softened to a comfortable temperature but the days are still long, with plenty of opportunities to laze on the beach. It's also the best time for water sports with peak annual sea temperatures. By November, the beach days are over in most countries, but the temperature is still perfect for exploring gorgeous cities, such as Venice and Dubrovnik, and without the crowds, the pace is far more relaxed. You'd expect some showers, so make sure to pack your rain coat and pack away the flip flops, which can get very slippery on the Roman cobbles.

Winter
Expect the coldest temperatures in Winter, but the conditions will still be significantly better than in Northern Europe and most days they'll be perfect to enjoy towns, cities and long, quiet walks. This is officially low season, so many tourist attractions will have closed, but cruise companies who have itineraries at this time of year will still have an exciting selection of excursions. Even though there's no snow, you'll still find a great selection of Christmas markets in December. Some of our favourites are in Corfu, Ajaccio and Seville.

Spring
With temperatures comparable to Autumn, Spring is another great month to enjoy the delights of the Mediterranean (but beware of the colder sea temperatures). Expect blossoming trees and increasingly warm sun as the shops and restaurants, which closed for the winter, open back up to customers. Easter is an important and busy time for the Christian countries in the region, but it also means closures for many shops and restaurants, especially in Spain.

Summer
The classic Mediterranean season is of course Summer. You're nearly always guaranteed sunshine on the long days, with gorgeous sunrises and sunsets. All the tourist attractions will be open for business and the towns and cities will have a great energy. Beaches will be very busy as everyone enjoys the glorious turquoise seas and numerous bars for a cocktail with stunning views. Be prepared for crowds and queues as everyone wants a slice of the Mediterranean paradise.
